Smile Makeovers with Cosmetic Dentistry

Smile Makeovers with Cosmetic Dentistry

A Smile Makeover consists of one or more procedures performed by your Phoenix cosmetic dentist that results in a more aesthetically pleasing smile. A smile makeover is sought out for various reasons including enhanced self-confidence and improved appearance. Sadly, nearly 75% of Phoenix, Arizona residents report some degree of dissatisfaction with their smile.

The first step in a smile makeover is a smile evaluation by a cosmetic dentist. This will include a thorough oral exam with x-rays and treatment recommendations for any oral health issues. The makeover will be a joint effort between you and your cosmetic dentist as you explain to your dentist what it is you would like to change about your smile and your dentist then councils you regarding your options and then develops a smile makeover plan custom designed for you.

There are a wide variety of procedures available today that can totally change the way you feel about your smile. Here are some of the most commonly requested procedures:

Teeth Whitening

There’s nothing that radiates beauty, youth and vitality like a brilliantly white smile, so it’s easy to see why teeth whitening is the most common procedure used to improve one’s smile. In addition, teeth whitening is relatively inexpensive. There are varying degrees of color change that can be accomplished with different teeth whitening procedures.

At home teeth whitening can begin with a do it yourself project such as teeth whitening strips that contain a mild bleaching solution and can be purchased over the counter and applied at home. They are usually worn for 30 minutes at a time. Anything you purchase over the counter will contain a fairly low concentration of bleach that must be used over a period of time to achieve results. Never use any product that doesn’t have the seal of acceptance from the ADA.

For tougher stains and/ or faster results you can purchase a take home teeth whitening kit from your cosmetic dentist. The kit will include custom made mouth trays fabricated from flexible plastic, and a stronger professional grade whitening gel. At home you can fill the mouth trays with whitening gel and leave them on your teeth for the prescribed length of time. This gel contains stronger bleaching agents for faster and better results than anything you can purchase over the counter.

For superior teeth whitening results nothing beats in office professional teeth whitening. If you choose this option, your cosmetic dentist will apply a highly concentrated gel to your teeth and use a special light to increase the bleaching action. The entire procedure often takes less than an hour. In office professional teeth whitening can sometimes lighten teeth up to 10 shades. Your Phoenix dentist can help you decide which whitening method is best for you.

Bonding

Small chips can be repaired by bonding a composite resin to the chipped tooth. An experienced cosmetic dentist can blend this restoration seamlessly. Similar materials can be used to replace ugly silver fillings in back teeth.

Porcelain Crowns

A Porcelain Crown is a tooth shaped shell that has been custom made to cover and strengthen an entire tooth, after the tooth has been properly prepared. Porcelain crowns make it possible to save week, broken and cracked teeth that would otherwise be beyond repair.

Porcelain Veneers

A porcelain veneer is a thin shell of porcelain custom made to cover only the front side of a front tooth. Porcelain veneers are extremely versatile, they can be used to cover teeth that cannot be lightened to a satisfactory shade and to cover cracked, chipped or misshapen teeth. They can also be used in place of orthodontics to give the impression of straight teeth if the misalignment is minor and can likewise be used to cover small gaps between teeth. Another use of porcelain veneers can be to change the size or shape of teeth for a more balanced attractive smile.

Gum Contouring

If your smile shows too much or too little gum your cosmetic dentist may be able to reshape your gums to improve the appearance of your smile.

Dental Bridges and Dental Implants

There is nothing more destructive to a smile than missing teeth. The two main methods of tooth replacement are dental bridges and dental implants. Dental bridges consist of one or more artificial teeth constructed to attach to the teeth on either side. This is a common cosmetic fix. Today the gold standard to replace one or more missing teeth is dental implants in Phoenix. A dental implant consists of an artificial tooth root implanted with in your bone just like your natural tooth root. A dental crown is then attached to the implant. Dental implants look and function like natural teeth and also help avoid the bone loss that results following tooth loss.
